Many Floyd fans exalt this song as one of their favorites from the whole of Pink Floyd’s oeuvre. Beginning with its signature collage of ticking and alarming clocks (the loudest single part of the whole album), the song can be heard on almost every classic rock station worldwide many times a week, and is one of Pink Floyd’s most recognizable and popular songs.

In preparing for their last-minute 11/2/98 performance of Dark Side, Phish spared no expense and actually sent Brad Sands out into Salt Lake City to do nothing less than buy a copy of the album on CD especially for the show. The CD was used a few times during the second set to add the album’s special sound effects to a few songs that were otherwise unimaginable. Therefore, after the exciting rendition of “On the Run,” the familiar ticking of “Time” began, followed by the inevitable alarms and metronomic beat as the sounds of the CD played over the venue’s P.A. Fishman then picked up the minimalist tick tock on his woodblocks as the band began to play the song’s intro themselves. Though hampered a wee bit by a mis-timed start and a few sloppy moments, the guys did the song plenty justice, kicking out a rocking version that energized the heck out of the ‘E’ Centre on one of the most hallowed nights in Phish history.
