Comments on "Dick's4 Recap: So Long Summer 2024 and Thanks For All the Phish", posted by zzyzx

Well done. Simply, well done. As expected, your statistical analysis was so sharp and would make anyone appreciate Phish metrics.

So, in general, a whole lot of boding that was going on all tour, last night, and is just happening currently with this band. You nailed it in that they shouldnt be this creative this far into their careers. But that is what makes them who they are. They are doing it and writing the playbook on how a pirate looks at 42!!

Anyhoo, Great job capturing last night, great literary correlation, just stellar. You are a legend.

Lovely way to wrap the recap season, thanks David.

Worth noting that the Beastie Boy's MCA would have turned 60 on August 5th this yearborn just a few weeks before Treyhad he not passed away from cancer back in 2012, the last time they performed Sabotage. Got to think that might have been going through their minds. Or maybe they read my forum post last month with the request!

Solid summer performance this year!

If I had any notes to offer that would have put this show over the top, it might be the somewhat schizophrenic encore. But pairing Big Black Furry Creatures from Mars with say, Sabotage as a nod to MCA (who also would have turned 60 this year, on August 5th) would have been too much to handle on Night 1.

@andrewrose, I recall that you also mentioned this in your recap of Bethel Night One, quoted above. Solid call.

Great recap! It was only my second show, with my first having been 8/31/23, and I had a fantastic time with my dad, as well as a friend who got a ticket last minute. We were a little bit behind and above you in section 114. The big jams were jaw-dropping and the setlist choices top-notch all the way through. Great lights, too. I'm so glad to have discovered Phish right around the time they seem to be rediscovering how great and creative they themselves are, and acting on it. So much fun was had by all.

I got the Ryan Kerrigan 2024 dicks pin on shakedown, number 42, not a coincidence haha

Good review but Im a little baffled how Fluffhead didnt even warrant a mention. I was driving home from a free Umphreys McGee show on the beach in Virginia Beach. The show was on XM and the Fluffhead pretty much encompassed my entire ride home of 15 minutes. To these ears, that version ripped hard. Extremely tight and packed with energy. Just a comment.

One other comment - if you listen to the Beacon Jams from 11-13-20, there is a Tube where they also do the Thomas Dolby Science and even to a great degree with the full blown She Blinded me With Science!!. By the way, that version of Tube smokes ???????? !!! ????????

Surprised no one mentioned the Boogie On (sort of) tease in My Friend, My Friend? There was a sky banner requesting Boogie On before the show (bringing back memories of 2013s Icculus). Which I honestly thought was a bit cheeky - we can just pay for planes and get a song request played now? I discussed this with some folks while in line and they expressed doubt that Trey would bow to pressure, given his supposed dislike of being told what to play.

And sure enough, it seemed like Treys response was to troll us during My Friend, My Friend - threatening to careen into Boogie On with that wild key and rhythm change towards the end. Any moment theyll start to Boogie, right? Right?! But just when we cant take it anymore, Trey screams a glorious denial of My Friend! My Friend! Hes got a Knife! and caps off the happiest version ever played (Drummer Boy versions a notable second).

Well, thats my story, and Im sticking to it.
