Debut: 1994-10-31

Historian: Mark Toscano

The sad, sad story of "Rocky Raccoon" and his failed attempt to win back a wayward girlfriend was told during set two of Phish’s 1994 Halloween White Album performance. Although Trey played the tune on his electric guitar (the original was on an acoustic), it was more or less faithful to the original, with one exception. What at first seems like a gender-agreement problem with Trey’s pronouns (...”but everyone knew him as Nancy”) is actually a clever reference to an old Phish friend, Richard “Nancy” Wright, author of “I Didn’t Know” and “Halley’s Comet.”
